Update: SAFE285

We are Safe Access For Everyone (SAFE285) and are residents of Park County

Colorado. Specifically, Bailey Colorado. We have a situation developing

here regarding CDOT and ‘improvements’ being made to US Highway 285.

The plan calls for removal of the traffic light at the intersection of

US285 and CR43a. This light serves thousands of residents in Bailey, and

is crucial to the businesses and residents in the area.

CDOT is moving forward with the project despite no community support.

They have failed to address community concerns, have not collected

community input, and are using a 16 year old traffic study to justify

the removal of the light. They have also flat out said they don’t care

about the community concerns, they only care about improving the speeds

and commute times on US285.

They are trying to turn our thriving mountain community into just

another mile marker.

The County Board of Commissioners is not opposing the project, mainly

because the Chair (Richard Elsner) is on the State Highway Advisory

Board. He is putting state interests ahead of the interests of the

county he represents.

Since it is up to the community to stop this, a group of residents and

business owners has formed a coalition to try and stop this project. We

will be gathering outside of the Crow Hill Bible church this Friday

(7/24) at 3:30pm, and again on Sunday (7/26) at 12:30pm to film the

intersection and voice our opposition.

Check out their page on The Park County Beacon.
